Anyone mentioned in Vitals inquiry should quit, PN says; PL replies

The Nationalist Party is insisting that all those who are mentioned in the Vitals inquiry should quit any public position they occupy.

The PN said that this applies to the PM, deputy PM, ministers, parliamentary secretaries and others in public positions.

The calls was made Friday in the wake of reports that apart from former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, other ministers are mentioned as having acted inappropriately in the deal which saw the transfer of three hospitals to the private sector, an agreement that was later rescinded by the courts.

A magisterial inquiry into the deal was concluded a few days ago.

Whoever was involved in what the PN described as the “largest fraud in Maltese history” can no longer continue to serve in a public position, whatever Prime Minister Robert Abela says.

It is clear that Abela, Muscat and deputy PM Chris Fearne know exactly what the inquiry concluded, not only because they know what they did, but because they have been given access to the inquiry conclusions, the PN claimed.

Abela is using what he knows from the inquiry to save his position, and this is being done with the complicity of the Attorney General and the Police Commissioner, who are led from Castille, the PN said.

The PN said that the AG and police chief should no longer drag their feet and should do what the law dictates. The PN added that Abela has not learnt the lesson from the way Muscat had been forced to quit.

In reply, the Labour Party said that PN leader Grech is fighting for the “establishment” because he is obliged to it.

It is the establishment which put Grech in his position, and can only remain there until the group which hijacked the party wants him.

In the country, it is the people who decide, not the establishment, the PL said.
