‘Summon me so I can answer every question you may have,’ Joseph Muscat tells Police Commissioner

Former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has written to Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa and asked him to summon him so that he “can answer any question he may have and show all the facts.”

In a Facebook post on Friday, Muscat – who believes he will be charged in connection with the recently concluded magisterial inquiry into the Vitals hospitals deal – said that he had written to Gafa because he has nothing to hide.

“Because I have nothing to hide and because I have nothing to be afraid of from being absolutely transparent, earlier today I wrote to the Police Commissioner,” Muscat said.

“I told him to as soon as possible and when he has, unless he already has, received the conclusions of the inquiry into the hospitals deal from the Attorney General to summon me to answer any question he might have and to show all the facts,” he said.

“I have already said that this is another Egrant. This is a political vendetta against my family and I.  I will remain resolute for the truth to come out,” Muscat added.

The inquiry into the now court-annulled hospitals deal, which was concluded last week, has been the story of the hour, with suggestions that the former Labour triumvirate of power Muscat, Keith Schembri, and Konrad Mizzi are among those set to be charged in connection with it.

Muscat himself has for the past year mounted a legal campaign for the inquiring magistrate – Gabriella Vella – to be removed from the case, claiming that she was biased against him particularly as her father and brother had commented about the same hospitals deal themselves.

"I'm assuming I'm going to be charged with something," Muscat told a press conference earlier this week. "Bring it on. I am bracing myself for it and I will fight it to win it."

"I am serene because I know what I did and didn't do, and I have no doubt time will prove me right and I have no problem with being fairly scrutinised. If there is justice in this country, I will be acquitted,” he had said.
