Twenty-six Menrad Co. Ltd employees have received a notice of termination of employment, the Union Haddiema Maghqudin and the General Workers’ Union said in separate statements.

Menrad produces spectacles and is one of the largest factories on the island, employing some 250 workers in recent years. The UHM said that the decision to dismiss the workers was taken after a reduction in the number of orders received.

In its statement, the GWU pointed out that Menrad had sacked another 27 employees last August.
