Malta Independent Wednesday, 14 April 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

Josef Vella, through his lawyer Emmy Bezzina, explained, in detail, that he had stopped paying the child support after he took care of his son while his estranged wife was in hospital following a traffic accident.

In the application, Mr Vella explained that after the accident, his estranged wife spent several months in hospital and as a result, he took his son into his care.

Since his son was in his custody, Mr Vella stopped paying the child support.

Following this, police inspector Louise Calleja charged him with failing to pay the child

support.

The application was filed against the prime minister, the justice minister, the attorney general, the police commissioner, inspector Calleja as well as against the inspectors at the Birkirkara and Zejtun police

stations.

Mr Vella called on the police commissioner to drop the charges instituted against him and held the others responsible for damages he may be

suffering.
