Record Deal for Stilair and Niki Gravino

Malta Independent Saturday, 12 June 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Mike Galaxy, president of Indy Hits, was recently in Malta to attend a showcase organised in association with Awaken Events at The Alley in Paceville in which 18 local acts participated.

Stilair obtained the licensing deal for their gripping and timeless melody, Icon, while Niki Gravino signed the licensing deal for his track Like Feathers, a beautiful eclectic mix of electronica, gothic and rock music. Effectively, the deal will give artists the opportunity for their music to be featured on licensing mediums such as film and television.

Niki Gravino launched his solo career with a bang earlier this year, with the release of his long-awaited debut EPVitamins and Eye cream which also features Like Feathers. Niki Gravino is backed by highly talented musicians: bass player Alan Calleja, drummer Keith Gauci and guitarist Franco Tartaglia. Vitamins and Eye cream is available from all leading record stores across the Island.

Stilair went public at the end of last year, following a long period of experimentation, and have since performed at a number of venues. Stilair’s line-up consists of Gilbert on vocals, keyboard and guitar, Trevor on guitar and keyboards, Karl on drums and Sylvan on bass. Icon is their second release. Details of Stilair’s upcoming performances and music downloads are available through their website at www.stilair.com.

When contacted in Los Angeles Mike Galaxy said: “Niki Gravino and his band stirred a truly impressive performance like Trent Reznor drenching his audience in a downpour of purple rain. Catchy hooks and solid musicianship will certainly take this Maltese band to the next level.

“Stilair was by far one of the most compelling bands I witnessed on my recent trip to Malta. I was truly impressed with their musicianship and stage presence,” Mr Galaxy continued.

Niki Gravino commented: “It’s certainly fulfilling to be appreciated not only by an anonymous crowd but by an industry specialist like Mike! I certainly won’t be content until I have a true career in the international music industry and this deal is a strong incentive for me and my band to work harder.”

Stilair’s members were equally enthusiastic. A spokesman for the band said that the artists are very pleased that a professional in the music industry not only likes their music, but is ready to promote it. They are also in regular contact with Mike Galaxy and look forward to future collaborations.

Among the bands which Mike Galaxy discovered and helped sign are Linkin Park, the popular American nu metal group signed with Warner Brothers Records.

Both Icon and Like Feathers currently feature on the play lists of local radio stations.
