Malta Independent Wednesday, 16 June 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The man, a 30-year-old from San Gwann, cannot be identified due to a court order. The publication of his name could harm the ongoing investigations and any future arraignments.

The police officer was accused of committing a crime he was duty-bound to prevent and receiving money to which he was not entitled. He was also charged with being an accomplice in the trafficking of women for prostitution purposes.

The other man involved in the crimes was charged with organising a brothel and several related crimes last week. The court held the sitting behind closed doors.

The policeman was granted bail against a Lm5,000 personal guarantee.

Inspectors Raymond Aquilina and Louise Calleja prosecuted while Dr Joseph Giglio appeared for the accused.
