AC Cobra On display at go mobile trade fair stand

Malta Independent Thursday, 1 July 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The car, which can only be described as gorgeous, has been sprayed go mobile’s traditional orange and blue livery and will be on show at the stand till 11 July. The exhibition of the car came about as a result of a marketing and co-branding agreement between go mobile and AC Cars, Britain’s oldest sports car brand. Although many may think of the Cobra as a magnificent piece of history, these are brand new machines that are fully emission compliant, have power-steering, are computer chipped and are covered by a carbon-fibre one-piece body. The AC Cobra generates an amazing 270 bhp, but will set you back the hefty sum of Lm25,000.

go mobile chief executive officer Juanito Camilleri said the agreement with AC Cars reflected the company’s philosophy of promoting and associating itself with initiatives that are taking place in Malta.

AC Motor Holdings Ltd chairman Alan Lubinski said AC had been producing high performance vehicles since 1901. “We have decided to invest Lm1 million in our Malta project and will be transferring technology from our United Kingdom plant to Hal Far, where composite-body versions will be built for export. We will also begin production of a new model, the AC Ace,” he said.

Speaking about go mobile’s trade fair offers, Professor Camilleri said that perhaps the best bargains were the Sagem myX-6 and Nokia 3200, going for Lm75 and Lm85 respectively. Other offers include the Sagem myX-7 at Lm119, the Nokia 3650 at Lm110, the Nokia 6220 at Lm140 and the Nokia 660 at Lm180.

“But the most fantastically reduced price is on the Sagem myX-2, which has a colour screen and is WAP enabled for only Lm35,” he said.

Prof. Camilleri said that sending an MMS costs only 10 cents and all new customers who register with go mobile by 11 July will get Lm5 free talk time.

He said: “go mobile is still going strong and we are fast approaching the 50 per cent mark of market share. We have recently invested in new technology to enable MMS, but that is only a pre-cursor of things to come when we get into 3-G technology.”
