Sailing Marathon raises Lm1,300

Malta Independent Wednesday, 11 August 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

The event, which was held at Haywharf in Floriana, saw the club’s members and also members of the public sailing for a good cause.

Teenagers Nicky Sammut and Darren Cauchi, challenged themselves to manage to spend the whole marathon sailing, sleeping and eating on board a dinghy sailing around Marsamxett.

They braved the cold early morning dew and scorching daytime heat and accomplished their goal.

The rest of the club members took it in turns to give members of the public the chance to sail in dinghies, with people even turning up in the middle of the night!

The event came to an end on Sunday when President Edward Fenech Adami surprised everyone by donning a life-jacket and spending 15 minutes sailing in one of the dinghies himself, crewed by Kathleen Bowman and Melissa Cauchi.
