Factors That indicate a positive future

Malta Independent Monday, 13 September 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

Speaking at the fish fair in Marsaxlokk, the prime minister said the Nationalist government has worked very hard to improve the quality of life and will continue its work in this direction.

Living in an EU country, the Maltese consumer is enjoying new benefits, such as the removal of satellite licences and therefore Lm400,000 remained in the citizens’ pockets, he said.

The PN had liberalised the telecommunications sector, with the result that more people are using mobile phones and applying for internet access.

21,000 more mobile phones are in circulation this year and 9,000 more people have internet access, the prime minister said.

In the second quarter of this year, trade rose by 12 per cent, which shows that people are trusting in the future forged by the PN, Dr Gonzi continued. “If people were unsure of the future, they would not invest their money in businesses,” he said.

As another of the Nationalist government’s successes, the prime minister also mentioned the 300 new jobs created in the manufacturing sector in the second quarter of the year.

These are all positive indicators of a sound future, said Dr Gonzi. He noted that Alfred Sant has been the Malta Labour Party leader for 13 year and over these years he has disagreed with every decision taken by the PN. “Every time, we have proved him wrong because, our initiatives have always resulted in prosperity for our country,” Prime Minister Gonzi concluded.
