Birkirkara mentor Stephen Azzopardi has rubbished rumours that former captain Chucks Nwoko has been kept on the reserves bench due to disciplinary measures.

Commenting on the club’s official website, he said: “The decisions that I have taken after Valletta’s match were purely based on technical reasons. I would like to make this clear that I did not take any disciplinary measures against any player. The Board of Directors have issued certain disciplinary measures and the players are already aware of them.”

He also made it clear that the disciplinary measures did not include any suspensions on any of the club’s players. He did not reveal what the measures were.

Azzopardi said he had no problems with Chucks Nwoko or any other player. He added: “Nwoko has been training in a professional manner and is working hard to regain his fitness. The decision whether Nwoko is going to be in the first eleven or not for the next match, will be a technical decision. My responsibility as a coach is to choose the best players that are currently in form from the selection available”.
