60 Second Interview - Stephen Calleja

Malta Independent Sunday, 19 December 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

n How old are you? Star sign and date of birth?

37, Capricorn, 26 December 1966 (now you know why I was called Stephen, although I don’t like boxing).

n Significant other? Children?

Wife Rosanne, two kids, Luke aged nine and Sarah seven.

n What would you like to be doing in 10 years’ time?

After having won the Super Five at its maximum, sunbathing all day in Hawaii while drinking champagne… But probably I’ll still be here…

n What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Happiness is a fleeting moment. It never lasts.

n What is your favourite occupation?

I have little time for anything else except work. Watching a football game on TV is something I always look forward to. Especially when my favourite team AC Milan plays... and wins. And I enjoy reading a good book.

n What is your greatest fear?

Losing the few precious people who surround my life.

n What is it that you most value in your friends?

Friends are hard to keep these days. But, if you want an answer: the ability to listen.

n How would you like to die?

Looking into the eyes of a princess…

n What is your greatest extravagance?

I am not an extravagant person. An sms could make (or break) my day.

n What is your greatest regret?

Let’s just say that I should have enjoyed my youth more and stop there.

n What is your most treasured possession?

A chess set I bought in Paris. I love playing chess.

n Which talent would you most like to have apart from the ones you already have?

Hmmm. A difficult one because I have too many already… Just joking. Playing the piano.

n What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Having a problem and not finding anyone to open up to. But it has happened too many times and I’m used to it now.

n Where would you like to live?

This one’s easy. Milan. If I had been born there, I would not have married, not have had kids, and would have spent all my life working to earn enough money to follow AC Milan everywhere.

But maybe it’s better like this. If I had been born in Milan I might have ended up as an Inter fan. So, it’s better to be Maltese and a Milanist, rather than a Milanese and an Interist.

n What is your most marked characteristic?

I am committed to everything I get involved in. I give it my all.

n Who are your heroes/heroines in real life?

Claudio Baglioni. There is always a song of his that suits my mood. My dream is to interview him one day.

n What is it that you most dislike?

In myself, the inability to relax and enjoy myself. In others, the inability to be punctual and to admit mistakes. And mosquitoes that whizz past my ear when I’m trying to

sleep.

n What is your motto?

Give your maximum, then come what may.
