Woods Signs four-year deal

Malta Independent Tuesday, 11 January 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Sliema Wanderers made another impressive swoop on the January transfer window yesterday when club president Robert Arrigo announced that Orosco Anonam (picture) had been granted Maltese nationality.

This move enabled Sliema to sign a third foreigner in the form of Slovakia striker Lubos Pernis, who had been training with the Blues. The club’s other foreigners are Murphy Akanji and Danilo Doncic.

Pernis is a former player of Matador Puchov who had met Sliema in Euroepan competition two seasons ago. But this season he has not played a game for them.

His earlier clubs included Inter Bratislava and Banik Prievidze. He is 28 years old.

Meanwhile, Arrigo also confirmed on the club’s official website that newcomer Ivan Woods from Pieta Hotspurs had signed a four-year contract with the club. And former Floriana goalie Matthew Camilleri had also signed a deal till the end of season 2005/2006.

Woods had agreed to join the Wanderers despite stiff competition from Birkirkara and Marsaxlokk.

Both Pernis and Woods had to attend their first training session under the charge of Edward Aquilina and Hugh Caruana yesterday at Tal-Qroqq.

The two are expected to form part of the Sliema Wanderers squad for this evening’s clash against St Patrick.
