The Baystreet Complex has just launched a successful venture which saw the inauguration of the Sunday Showcase which will involve the participation of various talents from different areas. Each time, the Sunday Showcase will involve a different area, under the umbrella of the local council.
Santa Venera local council was invited to participate in the first Showcase event which was held last week. This turned out to be a highly enjoyable and successful activity that involved various artistes from the Santa Venera locality. These included sculptors, gilders, artists, ceramists and other local craftsmen and women. The afternoon events saw the participation of guitarist Tony Pace, local choirs, bands and various singers and dancers who all hail from Santa Venera.
Santa Venera mayor Michael Caruana said that the council had accepted the invitation to participate as this was really an excellent showcase for local talent. He also said it was a wonderful opportunity for the talented to display their art. “Such opportunities are hard to come by and this is probably the reason behind the success of last Sunday’s activity.”
The BayStreet Complex activity organisers were also very happy with the success of this first Showcase and hoped that many other local councils will take the initiative to follow suit. Martin Sapiano, who heads the activity team, said, “It is an excellent
platform for highlighting the
otherwise ignored local talent and bringing it to the attention of the wider audience that frequents the Bay Street Complex.”
He added: “Santa Venera local council, the various artistes and the visitors thanked us for the good time that was had by all.We, on the other hand, thanked them for agreeing to participate. In fact, we would like to extend this invitation to those local councils that have not yet organised themselves or contacted us to do so – we are sure the residents of their locality would really appreciate the opportunity to exhibit their talent away from their home town and in front of a wider audience.”
