Employees and directors of First Insurance Brokers Ltd, together with their families, have taken part in a tree-planting exercise at Ghadira, following the company’s decision to donate a substantial sum in order to purchase and maintain a number of trees as part of the Foresta 2000 project.

Foresta 2000, is run by Bird Life Malta and Din l-Art Helwa, with the support of the Rural Affairs and the Environment Ministry, and aims to reforest the area around the Ghadira nature reserve.

“Foresta 2000 is an exciting project that will not only increase the area of forested land in Malta but will serve as an oasis for wildlife which the public can enjoy. Farming and development in the Ghadira area has had a seriously negative impact on the

natural environment, and this project is turning this around,” said First Insurance Brokers chairman Austin Walker.

The commitment to Foresta 2000 from First Insurance Brokers Ltd will be extended throughout the coming years. A specific area has, in fact, been set aside by the project managers for the company to continue planting tress in the future.

“First Insurance Brokers’ board of directors feels strongly that everyone should play a part in improving Malta’s environment. We cannot expect NGOs to do all the work and we hope that this event will help to increase the public’s sense of responsibility towards the development and cultivation of the area, and encourage other private enterprises to also play their part,” said First Insurance Brokers managing director Salvino Mifsud Bonnici.
