The Singles section of this competition is almost over and will be definitely concluded by the end of the month.

Adrian Chetcuti (Kara Medairco) has won the Division 2 title. Having ended his commitments in the runner-up slot of Division 2B (with five wins, two draws and a single defeat on his record), Chetcuti first faced the play-off against the winner of Division 2A, Daniel Abdilla (also of B’Kara Medairco).

His second play-off was against team-mate Albert Bezzina. Having ended his commitments unbeaten at the top of Division 2B (with six wins and two draws on his record), Bezzina initially faced the play-off against the runner-up of Division 2A, Maria Borg (Shuttles BC).

The decisive title match between Chetcuti and Bezzina was a balanced three-setter, played well by both contestants, which finally went Chetcuti’s way with the score of 17/14 – 10/15 – 15/11. Through this important win, Chetcuti turned the tables on the only opponent who had defeated him in this competition.

Meanwhile, the First Division will come to its end next Sunday. Defending champion Stefan Salomone (B’Kara Medairco) and his direct contender Kenneth Vella (Pawla Wolves) are deadlocked on equal points at the top of the table.

Vella is still unbeaten after the ten matches played so far. On the other hand, Salomone has ten wins and a loss on his record from his eleven matches.

Hence, Vella still has two matches left to play while Salomone has only one – his direct encounter with Vella, against whom he has sustained his only defeat so far.

Vella’s first round win could prove to be a decisive psychological factor when the two rivals meet again next Sunday.

Provided he wins his first match against Tony Xuereb, Vella can then play calmly for a draw; on the other hand, the pressure is all on Salomone who needs nothing less than a win in order to force a decider for the title.

The current First Division table is as follows: Kenneth Vella and Stefan Salomone 30 points; Brian Zammit 14; Robert Salomone 13; Tony Xuereb 9; Patrick Cassar 4; Martin Farrugia 0.

In addition to the aforementioned First Division matches, the H2Only Individual competition will next Sunday also include fixtures from the Second Division Doubles League.
