Qormi Seiko 42

Hibs Go Mobile 84

(10-18) (11-10) (16-29) (5-27)

Hibs duly notched up another victory over bottom-club Qormi, their third this season, to stay firmly on top of the standings.

They had a good opening, only to be overhauled midway through the session. The Paolites recovered to obtain a good first session lead, which they expanded on in the second quarter, for a 27-14 lead. Qormi had a good reaction till the end of the quarter, and at the interval it was a 28-21 game.

After the break Hibs started dictating play, and more treys on their part extended their advantage. Qormi replied as best they could but Hibs were not holding back, and after three sessions they were 57-37 in front. The last quarter was even worse for Qormi, as Hibs let loose.

A long 20-2 run opened up a huge gap, and Qormi could only slightly increase their score. Hibs continued getting hoops at will for a big win.

Qormi: 14 Carina Gauci

Hibs: 15 Lucienne Bezzina, 12 Doreen Parnis, 12 Alexis Darmanin

Referees: Alfred Carbonaro, Silvan Cacciattolo

Luxol Vodafone 56

Kerygma 33

(10-7) (15-10) (17-9) (14-7)

Luxol returned to winning ways, after their Louis Borg Cup elimination. They found a Kerygma side from whom something better was expected.

A low-score first session found Luxol in a slight lead, but they fared better in the second quarter, as Kerygma were hit by a 4-15 adverse run. Kerygma did retaliate till the end of the session, but at the interval buzzer it was Luxol, at 25-17.

After the break Kerygma were on the receiving end once more, as Alexia Jones grabbed her second trey, to start another Violets 9-2 run. Kerygma didn’t recover and Luxol went on increasing their lead.

In the final quarter Kerygma fell further behind before finally making a sort of reaction, but Luxol took the game in hand again, to garner their fifth league win.

Luxol: 14 Justine Mangion, 12 Amanda Sciortino, 12 Ruth Spiteri

Kerygma: 12 Renette Debono

Referees: Steve Gouder, Jennifer Mangani

Naxxar Danone 47

Depiro Still 81

(16-16) (8-23) (19-20) (4-22)

Depiro wanted no misgivings from this match, and they brought their “Sicilian” players back to the fold.

They still had a hard time at first as Naxxar replied admirably in the first session and tied the game, after being briefly in front.

The second quarter saw Depiro forging in front, but more pegged back once again, to just a point difference, but from then on Depiro were unstoppable, starting with a Raquel Tryon trey and going on to a 14-0 run, as the halftime score escalated to 39-24 in their favour.

After the break Depiro seemed to be going on the same path again but Naxxar rallied and a mid-session 12-2 run ending with an Irene Farrugia trey brought them back once more. Depiro settled down again and till the end of the session had totalled an 89-43 score.

The last quarter found Naxxar without Amie Jetcheva, fouled out. They held out for some time, but then Josephine Grima started piling up the points, complimenting Dorianne Galea, and Naxxar were hit once again with a 16-0 run. The end came soon enough, and Depiro still chase leaders, Hibs, a point behind.

Naxxar: 15 Irene Farrugia, 14 Amie Jetcheva

Depiro: 27 Josephine Grima, 25 Dorianne Galea

Referees: Alfred Carbonaro, Clive Terribile
