Malta Independent Thursday, 31 March 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The Eden SuperBowl will be holding the second Malta Youth Open between today and Saturday, the event once again being sponsored by Globalair Travel Ltd.

The tournament is open to bowlers aged 24 years or less, and while close to 40 local athletes will be competing in the event, largely from the national Youth and Junior squads, the SuperBowl will also be hosting a similar number of young athletes from other countries, largely from the UK.

All entrants will take part in both singles and doubles events in their respective categories (male and female under-18 and under-24) with trophies being awarded for the top three placings in each competition. The combined individual performances from the doubles and singles will then decide the ‘Masters’ event, where the top six bowlers in each category will battle it out to decide the two Malta Youth Open Champions.

Globalair Travel Director, Mark Bugeja stated, “We’re very happy to see such a positive response to the second Globalair Travel Malta Youth Open, and we’re sure it will be another great event.” He went on, “Tenpin bowling in Malta, thanks to the various international events organized at the SuperBowl, plays a very big part in the growing sector of sports tourism, and Globalair are glad to be a part of it”.

A practice session was held at the SuperBowl’s lanes yesterday. Competition will commence with the Doubles event today and then the Singles tomorrow. The climax of the Youth Open will be the Masters Round Robin stage on Saturday, followed by the divisional finals in the afternoon.
