Malta Independent Sunday, 5 June 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Born in Mosta, Mario Azzopardi has been interested in movies since he was very young.

At present he is an assistant head at Antonio Bosio School, Gzira. Until two years ago, he taught Physics to Form 4 and Form 5 girls at Maria Assumpta Secondary, Hamrun.

On the film front he was accredited three times for the Oscars. He met and interviewed several actors, including Mel Gibson, Sharon Stone, Jack Nicholson, Charlton Heston, Richard Attenborough and Leonardo

Di Caprio.

He has also attended several other awards including the European Film Awards, the Berlin Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival.

Mario’s real hobby is watching football and he is a great fan of Milan. His favourite cities are London and San Francisco. He says he “honestly” hates Los Angeles because “it is too cold and impersonal” but he loves being in Hollywood and Beverly Hills.

His favourite cinema is the Empire Cinema 1 in Leicester Square,

London and whenever he is in London, he goes to whatever movie is showing there.

His favourite theme park is the Universal Theme Park in Los Angeles.

His most embarrassing moment he says is finding himself face to face with Mel Gibson immediately after he won the Oscars for Braveheart and “I became speechless”.

He presents the popular programme Flicks on Super One on

Wednesdays at 8.50pm.
