Former Freeport chairman Marin Hili is suing Malta Labour Party MP Evarist Bartolo for damages over an article published in The Sunday Times that Mr Hili deemed to be libellous.

In the case filed yesterday, Mr Hili claimed that the article entitled Wrecking Sea Malta, published on 12 June 2005 in The Sunday Times, was defamatory. The former Freeport chairman said the article tarnished his reputation and exposed him to public contempt.

He is suing Mr Bartolo for any damage caused by the publication of this article.

The case was filed by Dr Joseph Zammit Maempel.
