Malta Independent Tuesday, 12 July 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

After an absence of four years, Mosta FC will again be competing the Premier Division this coming season.

After gaining promotion as runners-up to Hamrun Spartans in the First Division, the Blues look forward to a good campaign among the big boys of Maltese football. Although Mosta are in the process of strengthening the squad, the changes have already been made on the administration side.

Frans Debono is the new club president, replacing Charles Abela who decided to step down after six years at the helm. Vice presidents Michael Attard and Charles Pace have also left the committee, but all three, with their respective companies, will again be sponsoring the club for the coming season.

Joseph Bonnici is the new vice-president, while Joe Muscat returns as secretary after several years. Joe Gauci retains the post of treasurer. The other committee members are Jimmy Mifsud, Mark Scalpello, Kevin Fenech, Stephen Borg, Martin Galea and Antonello Cappitta.

Paul Zammit has again been confirmed as first-team coach, while Iro Curmi will be his assistant and Under-18 coach. The first team squad started training on 30 June in preparation for the new season and the ‘Gammari’ Muscat’ Mosta Tournament.

This very popular tournament will this year be held between the 23 and 30 July. The participating teams will be announced soon.

On the team front, Paul Zammit has shown faith with the majority of the squad which did so well last season. However, negotiations are in an advanced stage regarding new players to the squad. Hopefully, within the next week, the full squad will be fully assembled and ready for the season ahead which starts on 5 August.
