60 Second Interview - Clarissa Borg

Clarissa Borg began her dance training at the age of five under the direction of Daphne Lungaro. She pursued the Royal Academy of Dance Vocational and Teaching examinations under the guidance of various Royal Academy of Dance local and foreign teachers. In 1992 she joined the Daphne Lungaro Ensemble and has been performing locally and overseas with the company ever since, representing Malta in Germany, Canada, Rome, Morocco, Barcelona, USA and Vienna. During her dance training Clarissa graduated from the University of Malta with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Communications.

In October 1999, Clarissa founded the Creative Dance Studio. She is the artistic director of the school and her work as a dance teacher and choreographer is mainly in the classical ballet faculty, teaching all students up to Advanced 2 level.

Clarissa, together with three other choreographers and her senior dancers is currently working on a dance production entitled Reflections, which will be held at the Valletta Waterfront next Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 July. This dance weekend is part of Festival Malta 2005, organised by The Malta Council for Culture and the Arts.

My husband Mark. No Children.

What would you like to be doing in 10 years’ time?

Well as the saying goes – life begins at forty… so I’ll have to wait and see what’s in store for me!

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Being in good health.

n What is your favourite

occupation?

Creating new choreographic

works and the exciting feeling of performing.

What is your greatest fear?

Waking up one morning unable to walk.

What is it that you most value in your friends?

Honesty.

How would you like to die?

I hate to think about it, but if I had to choose it would be in my sleep after a good night out.

n What is your greatest extravagance?

Time off, which doesn’t happen very often!

What is your greatest regret?

No regrets really, I’ve always followed my instinct without too much thought. I believe that you regret the things you don’t do.

What is your most treasured possession?

Too many to mention! I only hang on to the things I treasure… the rest have been long gone.

Which talent would you most like to have apart from the ones you already have?

I would love to be able to paint and write music.

n What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Being homeless and unloved.

Where would you like to live?

Anywhere, as long as I have the people I care for around me.

What is your most marked characteristic?

I’m hard-headed and impulsive.

Who are your heroes/heroines in real life?

I admire those people who

dedicate their lives to give the less fortunate a better quality of life.

What is it that you most dislike?

Eggs and mushrooms, especially hard-boiled eggs. I wouldn’t know what

they taste like, but the smell is enough to put me off.

What is your motto?

Be positive, Be yourself and Believe in yourself.
