A businessman who owns a number of shops and restaurants in St Paul’s Bay was robbed of Lm12,700 as he was on his way to the bank yesterday morning.

The incident took place at 11.30am in Mosta Road in St Paul’s Bay when the 46-year-old man was on his way to the bank with the earnings of the long weekend. A Kia Avella suddenly pulled up near him and two armed and hooded men demanded his money.

The man gave them all the money he had and the robbers fled the scene in the car, which was later found abandoned in another part of the village. No one was injured in the incident.

Duty magistrate Giovanni Grixti was informed about the case and appointed several court experts to assist him with the magisterial inquiry.

Qawra district police, as well as officers from the Criminal Investigations Department, are carrying out investigations.
