60 Second Interview - Giselle Calleja

Giselle Calleja has been working in the media for the past eight years. She is currently assistant producer to the inimitable Ray Calleja of the afternoon TV programme Ghandi Pjacir! For the past two years she’s been a committee member on the Manoel Theatre Management board.

Although she had to put dance aside for a while Giselle has been dancing since she was three years old and is a founding member of Contact Dance Company. She was the only Maltese to perform in front of millions in the Closing Ceremony of the Olympics, Athens 2004.

And the girl who kissed the count’s son, Albert in the pjazza scene in Mdina, in the film The Count of Monte Cristo was none other than Giselle.

Giselle loves TV presenting and past TV shows include Restyle and Preselect. Together with Sander she will soon be compèring The National Orchestra Goes Pop at the old opera house on 29 and 30 July.

How old are you? Star sign and date of birth?

Thirty. Cancer. 17 July 1975.

What would you like to be doing in 10 years’ time?

I would like to be married, a mother, and if not have my little business running. I would like to be in a position where I can be delegating work.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Being content, tranquil and peaceful internally, within myself.

What is your favourite occupation?

Being creative and working in a team, in the Arts, TV or film production.

n What is your greatest fear?

Loneliness, depression.

What is it that you most value in your friends?

My friends are very precious, they are gems I’ve picked along ever since I was a child. I value most their sincerity, them being there to listen in hard times, even those who live overseas, and most of all their energy, they are fun to be with.

How would you like to die?

This is something I don’t like to think about, however the time comes for everyone and when it does, I would like to be surrounded by my loved ones... actually I’m confused, perhaps better die in my sleep... preferably next to my loved ones, but that would be a shock for them... so I leave it up to Him to decide.

What is your greatest extravagance?

I love shoes, if I like a pair, I buy them no matter how much.

What is your greatest regret?

No regrets.

What is your most treasured possession?

My first pair of ballet shoes.

Which talent would you most like to have apart from the ones you already have?

I would most like to be a musician.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Poverty.

Where would you like to live?

Spain. I love the Spaniards’ spirit and way of life, I have a special affinity with them since my great grandma was Spanish.

What is your most marked characteristic?

My relaxed and calm nature, as a result I can feel comfortable and sleep anywhere!

Who are your heroes/heroines in real life?

No one in particular, but I admire those who never give up.

What is it that you most dislike?

Injustice and CORRUPTION.

What is your motto?

Believe in yourself and always try your utmost to overcome hurdles in life. Take risks. It’s alright to make mistakes.
