Football – UEFA Cup: Wanderers Suffer first half drubbing

Sliema Wanderers were yesterday soundly beaten 5-0 by Rapid Bucharest, in the first leg of the UEFA Cup first qualifying round match played in Bucharest.

Sliema face an almost impossible task in the second leg at Ta’ Qali on 27 July.

The locals had a dismal first half suffering all five goals in the first fourty five minutes of play.

Nicoale Grigore opened the score on four minutes, with Mihaj Buga adding the second ten minutes later.

Mid-way through the first half Coman made it 3-0, and Sliema suffered two further goals in the dying minutes of the half.

Buga obtained his brace on 41 minutes and Sliema defender Ian Ciantar committed an own on 45 minutes to add to Sliema’s misery.

In the second half the Wanderers managed to avoid further humiliation as they held their opponents at bay.
