Sailing: Off To Pozzallo

Malta Independent Friday, 14 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

A fleet of seventeen yachts will cross over to Pozzallo this morning on the Malta-Pozzallo Cruising-in-Company Rally being organised as part of the programme of activities to coincide with the publication of the seventh edition of ‘Yachting In Malta’.

This event will not be a race but a relaxing Cruising-In-Company crossing to Pozzallo which should give the yachtsmen making up the fleet an opportunity of sharing a pleasant experience with fellow members of the sailing fraternity at sea followed by a cheerful weekend with family and friends in the welcoming setting of the Sicilian town of Pozzallo.

By courtesy of the Comune di Pozzallo free weekend berthing is being extended to craft registered as participants of the event while tomorrow evening a welcome party is being hosted by the Mayor and Comune of Pozzallo at the town’s Palazzo Municipio.

The boats making up the Rally fleet and their respective skippers are:

Sandy Two (Roland Darmanin Kissaun), Wishbone (Herman Baldacchino), NoLonger A Dream (Jesmond Bondin), Maureen (Paul Gatt), Siren Song (Maurice Cristina), Jules (Stan Richardson), Linga Linga (Alna England), Gitane (Joseph Zerafa), San Michele (Antony de Bono), Patriot I (Pierre Portelli), Velina (John Huber), Isabella Too (Shawn Spiteri Duca), Yasumi (Jovin Rausi), Pandora I (Sergio Camilleri), Firstever (Anton Valentino), Princess Serena (Victor Calleja) and Lady of Loreto (Albert V. Huber).

The Malta-Pozzallo Cruising-In-Company is part of a series of sport and cultural activities being organised to coincide with the launch of the 30th Anniversary Edition of Yachting In Malta.

This programme is being sponsored by Virtu Ferries Limited, the Comune di Pozzallo and by ESI [Engineering for Science and Industry (Malta) Ltd]. Yachting In Malta is produced and published by Wilfred Sultana & Associates.
