60 Second Interview - Daniel Mercieca

Daniel Mercieca, a graphic and web designer, started his freelance career five years ago. He took to studying art at the age of 18 and four years later attended a photo editing course in New York. Between 1995 and 2001 he held various painting exhibitions locally. His digital art has featured in the international magazines Computer Arts and Macformat. His entry for Malta in the ‘Europe 4 Kids’ website, commissioned by Radio Netherlands was a finalist in last year’s Best of European Internet organised by Prix Europa.

Daniel Mercieca is responsible for the graphic designs of The Malta Arts Festival – Summer 2006 organised by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts. His hobbies are photography, working out at the gym and yoga. His portfolio may be viewed at www.danielmercieca.com

32 – I’m a Cancerian born on 13 July 1974.

What would you like to be doing in 10 years’ time?

I’m quite impulsive and don’t really plan that far ahead. Please ask me in nine and a half years’ time!

What is your idea

of perfect happiness?

A wise state of mind.

What is your favourite occupation?

Aside from mine, that of an astronaut.

What is your greatest fear?

Death.

What is it that you most value in your friends?

A sparkle in their eyes when we get

together.

How would you like to die?

Sapped by a giant Ipod – as in the last Scary Movie.

What is your greatest extravagance?

I spend most of my savings on

travelling.

What is your greatest regret?

Quitting piano lessons when I was 12.

What is your most treasured possession?

My dog – a mongrel that looks better than a pure breed German pointer.

Which talent would you most like to have apart from the ones you already have?

The talent of making objects, and people, appear and disappear at will.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

People who base their

relationships solely on

convenience.

Where would you like to live?

In heaven!

What is your most marked characteristic?

Probably not ever letting the child within me fall in deep sleep.

Who are your heroes/heroines in real life?

Klimt, Jesus Christ and Madonna – the like a virgin one.

What is it that you most dislike?

Cobwebs in people’s minds.

What is your motto?

Be prepared – from my scouting days.
