ETwinning a success in Malta

Malta Independent Tuesday, 10 October 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

etwinning Projects are advantageous to teachers’ professional development and to students, as they have the opportunity to experience other teaching opportunities firsthand, said Education Minister Louis Galea.

Dr Galea was speaking during the ceremony awarding the Quality Label in eTwinning and added that the project enables students and teachers to learn more about other cultures.

“Schools have the opportunity to extend their networks and share ideas with foreign schools, said Dr Galea.

The eTwinning project, he said, is now in its third year. “The project was meant to last three years but due to its success all over Europe, it will be extended.”

The project encourages collaboration between different schools while using Information and Communication Technology in the learning process.

In the past two years, 84 Maltese schools have participated in 83 different projects with the collaboration of 172 teachers and school heads.

Various Maltese schools competed with thousands of other European schools and came first, said Dr Galea.

“We hope to keep up this good work as it reflects positively on Malta and the students and teachers’ hard work,” he said.
