Bank of Valletta and the Malta Business Bureau have teamed up to organise a seminar tackling energy and water savings for Maltese businesses.

The aim of the seminar entitled “Let’s Save on our Energy Costs: Energy and Water Savings for Business” is to raise awareness and provide practical assistance to the local business community when resorting to much-needed energy and water saving practices.

The Malta Business Bureau and Bank of Valletta are convinced that energy efficiency can be a key driver for enhancing the competitive edge of local commerce, industry and the hospitality sector especially in the light of spiralling energy costs brought on by price hike-ups in the international oil markets.

The seminar will bring together the regulators’ perspectives on energy efficiency in the electricity and water consumption sectors along with two practical private sector case-studies from the manufacturing industry and the hotel and hospitality sector, as well as a comprehensive insight of the energy saving practices utilised at the new BOV Centre inaugurated last February. In practice, the seminar participants will have the opportunity to learn how to develop energy efficient practices that can be implemented in their respective businesses. Participants will be updated on the government’s plans to incept and implement an Integrated National Energy Efficiency Plan, which is of direct interest to a wide cross-section of local enterprise.

A panel discussion with senior representatives from the main regulatory bodies including the Malta Resources Authority, EneMalta, the Water Services Corporation and the Malta Tourism Authority, chaired by Godwin C. Micallef from the FOI Environment Committee, will discern the potential for energy saving in business. Ample discussion time will be allowed for participants to put forward their queries and learn from the best practice examples that will be illustrated by the competent project managers who were directly responsible for designing and implementing the energy saving initiatives in their private firms.

The half-day seminar on Energy and Water Savings for Business, which will be chaired by environmental expert Dr Simone Borg, will also help participants understand better the current EU policy debate on Energy Policy and Energy Efficiency besides prospective EU direct funding opportunities for business interested in resorting to small-scale energy efficient applications. The budgetary aspects related to energy saving projects will also be tackled with a presentation of BOV’s Environment Finance package for Industry.

The seminar “Let’s Save on our Energy Costs: Energy and Water Savings for Business” will be held on Thursday at the Westin Dragonara in St Julian’s. For a copy of the seminar programme and for booking registrations, participants are requested to contact the Malta Business Bureau on telephone numbers 2125 1719 / 2122 4415 or by e-mail on [email protected]
