The Luqa local council will boycott a workshop on waste management and local councils’ participation organised by WasteServ Malta Ltd.
The council said it is protesting against the imposition of a civic amenity site within its territory by WasteServ, instead of the 10,000 square metres piece of land promised by the government for the development of a recreational area.
The Luqa local council said it had long been promised the land and in fact it was integrated in the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (Mepa) Development Brief carried out six years ago.
WasteServ not only ignored the Mepa brief, but it did not consult the council about the site, and ordered its construction simply by means of a letter, the council said.
