Besides, such a hefty fine (sic!) will surely serve as a lesson to other offenders and thus help curb such practices from our islands.

The situation is utterly ridiculous and a real farce! Such a terrible act should not only have incurred a hefty fine and imprisonment if need be, but the offenders should have been made to cough up the money gained from such illegal practices (and which money is known to run into thousands of Malta liri) and give these to the many sanctuaries in Malta that are in dire need of such funds to be able to cope with the ever increasing problem of animal abandonment and inhumane treatment.

Or better still, wouldn’t it be nice to have had the offenders help out in community service, for example at one of the many sanctuaries abounding the islands; maybe it would bring them to their senses on the sufferings of animals.

However, having said this and knowing that nothing is ever going to be done to alleviate the situation on these blessed Catholic islands of ours, I hope that at least somebody had the common sense to remove the poor dogs from the custody of the offenders and place them somewhere where they will find some respect.
