60 Second Interview - IRA LOSCO

Malta Independent Sunday, 28 January 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Every year Ira Losco goes from strength to strength. Releasing her first album in 2003, many thought it would be a one off, yet just a year later she was back with a much raunchier, deeper Accident Prone which dominated the record sales charts all year round. She has toured Germany, supporting international acts like Elton John and Katie Melua, co-written tracks on two of her albums with international song writers and met the world's most famous humanitarian Bob Geldof… all thanks to music! Ira Losco is 2006's Bailey's Woman of the Year and Best Solo Artist, recently having released an already best selling unplugged album called Unmasked. She reveals all below…

How old are you? Star sign and date of birth?

I’m 25 years old and a Leo… love the attention! hehe

What would you like to be doing in 10 years’ time?

Music, music and more music.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Writing and performing and doing anything and everything related to creating music.

What is your favourite occupation?

The one I have at the moment… singer/songwriter.

What is your greatest fear?

That I won’t be able to achieve all that I dream of achieving… I’d always kick myself for thinking I haven’t tried hard enough… although I probably would’ve killed myself working for it!

What is it that you most value in your friends?

That they keep me so grounded, it’s unbelievable… and they always tell it to me straight and genuinely wish the best for me.

How would you like to die?

Performing… but ideally my family and friends would be there in the audience, so that I’d have the two things I treasure most!

What is your greatest extravagance?

Not really an extravagance, but I do overspend on my phone! Keeping in touch with my loved ones is very important to me!

What is your greatest regret?

No regrets! Just learning from my mistakes and making sure I confront a tough situation with more strength than the previous time!

What is your most treasured possession?

My albums… because it’s not everyday you get to have something you’ve created which you know you’ve worked so hard for. It’s amazing to see all the names of the people who you’ve worked with to achieve your dream on the label copy and ultimately to hear the amazing end result, which is the music!

Which talent would you most like to have apart from the ones you already have?

I wish I could really tell jokes better… I never get the punch line right hehehe!

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Not having anything to live for. Everyone needs a reason to get out of bed every morning regardless of what we do for a living. There must be something each individual thinks is significant in his/her life to live for… losing that is losing your sanity!

Where would you like to live?

I love living in Malta, it’s small, Mediterranean, I love the people… however I must admit I love cities… like Berlin, London, Stockholm…

What is your most marked characteristic?

Probably that I’m approachable… unlike what some people seem to imagine.

Who are your heroes/heroines in real life?

Anyone who sets his or her mind to doing something and succeeds regardless of how hard that goal seems. People who have drive and are unafraid to follow their dreams.

What is it that you most dislike?

Greedy, power driven people, who don’t give a s*** about anyone but themselves… people are dying out there because of these jerks and it’s not fair.

What is your motto?

Always believe in yourself, nothing is impossible… and never forget where you’re coming from!
