Anton Tabone Meets Speaker of Canadian Senate

Malta Independent Tuesday, 13 February 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Anton Tabone, had a meeting with Noel Kinsella, Speaker of the Canadian Senate and his accompanying delegation. Joe Demajo, Honorary Consul for Canada in Malta was present.

Discussions focused on the need to strengthen the existing relationship between the two countries, particularly at the parliamentary level. Both agreed that distance should not preclude frequent and closer exchanges.

Mr Tabone briefed Mr Kinsella on the workings and facilities available at the House of Representatives, pointing out that the Maltese House of Representatives, with its limited facilities, had to function and deliver as the larger parliaments.

He highlighted Malta’s Mediterranean dimension and the initiative taken by the Maltese House of Representatives to set up a Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean incorporating all the national parliaments on the Mediterranean littoral.

Mr Tabone also pointed out that the bilateral relations between the two countries should not neglect the presence of so many Maltese migrants in Canada.
