New Postcode will refine Maltapost’s delivery service

Malta Independent Tuesday, 10 April 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Maltapost has introduced a new alphanumeric postcode, which is made up of three letters followed by four numbers. This new postcode will complement the restructuring of Maltapost’s distribution system and continue to enhance further the efficiencies in the system.

Maltapost introduced the new postcode of each dwelling in the Christmas card sent last December. It can now be viewed on the online directory on the Maltapost website, www.maltapost.com.

Letters to households and commercial establishments are to be mailed in the coming weeks as reminders to clients about their new postcode. Maltapost will also be sending three postcards to each residence with the respective postcode. These cards can be sent at no postal charge to friends and relatives, informing them about the new postcode.

Clients wishing to obtain additional information or make enquiries about the new postcode are asked to contact Maltapost customer care on Freephone 80072244 or 21224421 between 8am and 3.30pm, Maltapost retail outlets or via e-mail at [email protected].

The three letters in the new postcode indicate the locality and the first three digits refer to the road/or street with the last digit referring to the actual street segment. Clients are requested to include the new postcode as part of their sender’s details.

Maltapost is also embarking on an educational information campaign on the media.

Maltapost stressed that until such time as clients were fully conversant with the new postcode, use of the old postcode would not cause any delays. However the changeover date from the previous to the new postcode has been set as the end of October, 2007.

In 2006, Maltapost’s service obtained a record 92 per cent J+1 result. This means that 92 per cent of mail was delivered by the next day, which is above the regulatory standard rate. The new postcode will assist Maltapost in improving its postal service.
