‘Cibus’ – New Programme about food

Malta Independent Saturday, 21 April 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

A new series about food is to start on Wednesday on NET TV. It will be transmitted every Wednesday at 8.30pm. The unique premise includes:

• Preparing delicious cuisine with the best ingredients while teaching and educating six “students” who all want to learn how to cook in order to be self-sufficient individuals;

• Promoting a healthy lifestyle through the understanding of food and how our body works;

• Exploring and promoting our rich local cuisine through the participation of various food enthusiasts, while including foreign influences and trends.

The programme aims to entertain while broadening viewers’ knowledge on food.

The students, who are in their 20s and 30s, live or intend to live away from home, and wish to learn how to cook for themselves and their family and friends. They love food but as yet have had no time or opportunity to learn how to cook. Through the series of these 10 lessons, we will start to see them acquiring skills. The chef/tutor is Joe Vella who will be granting them points according to their performance, while viewers will also be participating through televoting. From one programme to the next, there will be a “first in class” depending on the total amount of points obtained. The chef has a 50% say and the audience will have the other 50%.

The first in class will take away with him a starter kit with the best of ingredients, tools and books to help him flourish as a good cook, together with other vouchers and cash prices amounting to over Lm1,000. Viewers will also be winning a package of gifts including flights, hotel accommodation, and several other vouchers sponsored by Hilton Malta. This programme is co-produced by Clare Agius Media Production and Hilton Malta for Net TV.
