Cricket: Marsa Lose series against Trent

Over the weekend starting from Friday Marsa C.C took on new touring team Trent College C.C from the United Kingdom, in a three game series.

On Friday Trent won the toss and elected to bat in the twenty twenty version of the game. They batted well and totaled 172 runs from the twenty overs with B.Davies top scoring with fifty three runs, J. Thorne twenty nine runs, T. Livesey twenty one runs as did C.Heiden.

T.Good scored thirty seven runs. For Marsa Sasha Stevenson was the only wicket taker with two wickets. The Marsa team managed to bat the twenty overs only managing 77 runs with Mike Caruana (thirty three runs) and Jim Towers (ten runs) being the only batsmen to make it to double figures. For the visitors B.Watson was the main wicket taker with three wickets. Marsa lose by ninety five runs.

On Saturday Trent College again won the toss and batted first. A. Robinson opening the batting made an effortless century before retiring. An elegant innings which included seven fours. His opening partner T. Livesey made eighty runs before being caught behind.

I.Johnston impressed with seventy one runs including five fours and two sixes. T.Good made twenty nine runs and B.Watson fourteen in a massive score of 311 runs from forty overs.

Only Gordon Hewitt and Kevin Krishna took a wicket each out of the nine bowlers used. The Marsa team managed to bat out the overs only totaling 164 runs.

The only shining lights for Marsa were Nowell Khosla (forty seven runs), Ronnie Sacco (forty five runs) and John Grima (twenty two runs). Pavies was the most successful bowler for Trent, taking three wickets.

On Sunday Marsa finally won something - the toss and elected to bat. Nowell Khosla continued his fine form and top scored with fifty eight runs. Javed Shah scored twenty five runs in a total of 167 runs of forty overs. Three bowlers, Crosse, Pavies and J.Pollard were the better bowlers with two wickets each.

The visitors made the runs within thirty overs with T. Crosse scoring thirty nine runs, B.Watson thirty seven runs, Pavies twenty six runsand Heiden twenty three runs.

The only Marsa bowlers which were successful were Nadeem Asraf, Dave Newton and Nowell Khosla who took a wicket each. Marsa lose the series three to nil.

Next weekend the Marsa Team takes on Beehive C.C in a two game series.
