Waterpolo – BoV Winter league: Neptunes and Sliema meet in crucial match this afternoon

Malta Independent Saturday, 26 April 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 17 years ago

Old rivals Neptunes Vodafone and Sliema McDonald’s meet this afternoon in what is labelled as a crucial match in this year’s Bank of Valletta Winter League.

At present, Neptunes are leading the standings with a maximum six points from three matches while Sliema follow in second place, also with a maximum four points, but obviously from two matches.

It is an important match for both sides as a victory for Sliema will see them gaining an advantage over Neptunes. They would join them in top position but would have a match in hand.

On their part Neptunes will further increase their lead by four points were they to beat the Blues this afternoon, thus ensuring they finish the first round with at least a two-point lead over their ruivals, that is, if Sliema beat San Giljan next weekend.

In today’s other match – the first one on the card – San Giljan are expected to win another two points at the expense of Exiles who, together with Sirens, are still to obtain their first points in this competition.
