Twenty-nine-year-old Gloriana is the daughter of established singer Helen Micallef and niece of Renato who needs no introduction. She was brought up in a musical environment. She trained under her mother’s supervision since the age of seven, singing mostly classical music. She subsequently also developed a soprano voice. Two years later, Gloriana developed an interest in pop and soul music and again under her mother’s supervision, she trained for a number of years in this genre. In 2000, Gloriana began singing professionally in various hotels, during wedding masses and receptions, street parties, private functions, local feasts, festivals and competitions. In 2002, she took part in The Best Singer Award competition, organised by Peter Busuttil during his TV programme Red on Net TV. Gloriana won first place in this competition and eventually became a resident singer on Red. She was subsequently offered to take part in the programme Siesta also broadcasted on Net TV. Again, in 2006, she participated in the prestigious Golden Cross Singing Festival in Gozo together with local and foreign singers. She won first place and was offered an opportunity to sing abroad. Last year Gloriana was offered the opportunity to sing in various venues with Mro Paul Borg’s renowned Versatile Brass. These venues included the 2007 Indifest, the 2007 International Folk Festival organised in Qala, Gozo and also some nights at the Excelsior Hotel. Again in 2007, Gloriana took part in several TV shows on local TV stations. Last September, she began giving singing lessons to various students at the Artemocion School of Arts in Mellieha. In November of last year, Gloriana played the part of Helena in the musical Helena – Dramm Musicali, a musical on the life of St Helena. During this year Gloriana took part in One TV’s Saturday programme Matinée. Tonight she will be singing two songs namely, From This Moment and Proud Mary, with the National Philharmonic Orchestra during the Pop Fever concert at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.
