Mark Cutajar is a teacher by profession. He teaches Mathematics at St Martin’s College. He is married to Vicky Licari, a TV sports presenter. They have two children: twins Zak and Zea. His passion apart from teaching was always sport. He was engaged as a Sports contributor with The Malta Independent and then joined PBS where he established himself as one of the leading local Sports presenters and commentators. In 1998 he was the first commentator to give a running commentary of a World Cup Final. In 1999 he moved to One Productions where he was head of Sports and presenter of the award-winning programme L-Argument. He was also president of Marsaxlokk Aquatic Sports Club and vice-president of Marsaxlokk Football Club. Last November he was elected director in the Maltese Olympic Committee with the highest number of votes.

How old are you? Star sign and date of birth?

I am 37, my star sign is Leo. I was born on 6 August 1971.

What would you like to be doing in 10 years’ time?

Well in the coming days I will be facing a tough test, since I will be contesting the post of director of Sport within the Olympic Committee. If elected I have plenty of things in mind. Sport is my life, so in the coming years I will be working hard to push our level in sport to the top.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

I am perfectly happy when my relatives especially my kids, wife and parents are in good health.

What is your favourite occupation?

I have been involved in teaching for the past 14 years. I always taught at St Martin’s College and I love to go to my place of work in the morning. These years of teaching helped to built my character and above all they give me immense satisfaction. In these last three months, I have been working at the Olympic Committee, which I found really rewarding and I will be doing my best to do more in the years to come

What is your greatest fear?

My greatest fear is death. You cannot imagine how frustrated I am when I think that one day my loved ones and myself have to die.

What is it that you most value in your friends?

A good friend is the one you can trust, someone you love to help, to stay with and to share all the good and bad things in life.

How would you like to die?

I have never given it a thought but I would love to die with my wife and my two children near me… and at peace with everyone especially with God. My mother and father brought us up, to put God first. I pray a lot, I have a continuous conversation with God, even when I am driving to work in the morning as well as when I am angry.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Although I am hopeless at drawing, I still appreciate a beautiful work of art.

What is your greatest regret?

Although I love Malta my greatest regret is that I was not born abroad. Opportunities here are too limited and I would love to have more challenges in a bigger country.

What is your most treasured possession?

I treasure all the minutes I pass playing with my kids, rolling on the carpet with them in my living room. I treasure the memories of their birth, their first step, their first word and their first kiss.

Which talent would you most like to have apart from the ones you already have?

Playing a musical instrument. This is one of my biggest regrets in life.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

To show disrespect to your parents; to treat those younger than you badly; to abort a new born. And child abuse.

Where would you like to live?

This is a very easy answer and all those who know me, know it. Paris is the place I love most.

What is your most marked

characteristic?

I feel a winner in

whatever I do. This makes life less difficult and the obstacles few and

surmountable.

Who are your heroes/heroines in real life?

Trustworthy people who are ready to help no matter what, people who give their life for others through voluntary work, without expecting any thing back.

What is it that you most dislike?

I detest back-stabbing.

What is your motto?

You live only once. Try to make the most of every second.
