Freeport ‘did Not honour’ agreement with GWU

Malta Independent Thursday, 21 May 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The General Workers’ Union yesterday accused the Freeport management of not honouring an agreement it had reached with it on 21 April, when Minister John Dalli was present for the meeting that led to the agreement.

At the meeting it was agreed that the union would withdraw directives against the freeport, and the freeport withdraw the seizure order against the union, and pay the earnings lost by three employees who had been suspended for obeying the union’s directives.

The union said yesterday the management had not yet paid the employees the money withheld. It added it had informed Mr Dalli of the situation, he confirmed the agreement had been reached, and promised to intervene again.
