60 Second interview - Adrian Scicluna

Adrian Scicluna is an up-and-coming artist. He was born in Suffolk, England and lived there for the first 13 years of his life before his parents decided it was time to return to Malta.

Adrian holds a first class honours degree in Art Education from the University of Malta. Dedicating his free time to art, over the years he has also followed several art courses, including one at the School of Art in Valletta, where he was awarded first prize in sculpture in 1998/99. Adrian has participated in a number of collective exhibitions locally as well as abroad and recently held his first solo exhibition – Urbanisation Games – at St James Cavalier, Centre for Creativity, Valletta. Adrian’s media includes drawing and painting as well as sculpture, the latter being typically executed using materials and objects that are conceptually linked and specific to the issue at hand.

Adrian currently has a second solo art exhibition entitled Under Construction. In this show he presents a creatively fresh perspective on the developing landscape. The exhibition is showing at the Maritime Museum, Vittoriosa Marina, Vittoriosa under the auspices of Heritage Malta. It remains open until 30 June; Monday to Sunday 9am-5pm; Last admission 4.30pm.

Happy… with a smile on my face.

Materialising my ideas into art.

Not becoming an artist and art teacher much earlier in life.

My family.

Which talent would you most like to have apart from the ones you already have?

Music and gastronomy.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Losing hope.

Where would you like to live?

Close to nature.

characteristic?

Creativity.

Who are your heroes/

heroines in real life?

Antonio Sciortino for his artistic abilities. He is a distant relative (cousin of my great grandfather). I also admire Mother Theresa for her altruism and kindness and Nelson Mandela for his courage and determination.

What is it that you most dislike?

Physical, psychological, social, spiritual harm inflicted upon someone.

Live life now!
