MIM’s Islamic Finance Workshops

Following the successful events on Islamic Finance in the past two years, the Malta Institute of Management (MIM) is now organising an international event on this subject.

The five-day event, entitled Islamic Finance in a European Financial Services Framework, will start with a number of presentations on 12 October at the Radisson SAS Baypoint in St Julian’s and be followed by various workshops throughout the week, leading up to a final session to be held at the Islamic Centre in Paola on 16 October.

The workshops will address various areas of Islamic Finance, namely banking, insurance, funds and capital markets. Discussion will be in the context of a European framework, where the impacts on legislation such as Basel II will be discussed. The discussion will also aim at identifying, highlighting and highlighting Malta as a potential centre of Islamic Finance.

Confirmed speakers and delegates for these workshops include Dr Mohamad Nedal Alchaar, Secretary-General of Accounting and Auditing Organisation for Islamic Financial Institutions, Dr Hussein Hamid Hassan, Professor of Shariah and chairman of the Shariah Supervisory Committee of many Islamic banks in the Middle East, Professor Abdullah Al Shami, Prof. of Comparative Islamic Jurisprudence and Islamic Studies, Oliver Agha, managing partner of Agha&Shamsi, Ahmad Nazmi Camalxaman, manager at Global Markets CIMBA Islamic and Reuben Buttigieg, chairman of MIM and managing director of Erremme Business Advisors.

The event is supported by MIM collaborating partners Air Malta, BOV and Business Today and assisted by the Malta Employers Association and the Malta Union of Bank Employees. The sponsors are Erremme Business Advisors, Path Solutions and Newtech.

The event is being held as a Grundtvig Workshop under the Lifelong Learning Programme and participants are being supported by the European Commission, covering travelling and accommodation fees.
