Post-graduate Training ‘must continue to improve’

Malta Independent Friday, 27 August 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

It is in the common interest of both the medical profession and the patients we serve, to strive for high standards in the delivery of post-graduate training, Health Minister Joe Cassar told doctors during an activity yesterday.

While most graduates are performing satisfactorily, there are some areas which need attention and “it is for this reason that I have set up a committee chaired by Dr Charles Mallia Azzopardi,” he added.

The experience in introducing the foundation programme has been a success, not only because many more local graduates have decided to stay in Malta, but also by observing the enthusiasm of both trainers and trainees participating in this programme.

The government and MAM have a commitment to continue to develop post-graduate training in Malta, with a vision of excellence at European Level. This commitment is not only aimed at retaining young doctors in Malta, but also at guaranteeing the quality of the future generation of medical specialists.
