Malta Independent Friday, 22 October 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The government is ready to consider a proposal for a fixed wing service to Gozo if this proposal is economically and environmentally sustainable, Prime Minister Gonzi said.

He was replying to a question by Owen Bonnici (PL) who referred to the Gozo Business Chamber proposal as regards the airstrip. He also asked when will the promised twin engine, 17-passenger service from MIA begin.

In reply to a further question by Dr Bonnici, Dr Gonzi said no information is kept of the Harbour Air flights to Gozo but its website speaks of four flights daily from May to August and three in September.

Dr Bonnici also referred to the Gozo Heliport and remarked on its neglect today. Dr Gonzi replied that up till June 2010 the heliport was being used by a small operator to carry tourists between Malta and Gozo and to do flying tours of Gozo. For this reason the Gozo Heliport Ltd carried out some maintenance on the place, costing €15,550 a year.
