The grand total of €5.790 million was collected in traffic fines by the local councils of Malta and Gozo in 2008, a parliamentary reply by Prime Minister Gonzi to Charles Mangion (PL) revealed.
Predictably, the council which raked most fines was the St Julian’s one with €550,000, followed by Sliema (€438,000), Valletta (€363,000), St Paul’s Bay (€355,000), Floriana (€297,000), Birkirkara (€239,000), Hamrun (€236,000), and Qormi (€200,000).
The council which collected the least fines was surprisingly Marsa with just €442.
