Further Security measures at MIA

Malta Independent Wednesday, 12 January 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Malta International Airport said it will be taking various initiatives to enhance security services at the airport, including the upgrading and introduction of various equipment, increasing the aviation security legislative training and an intensification of tests.

The measures, the MIA added, were being taken regardless of the exact details of the alleged incident reported in sections of the media in which a passenger travelling from Malta to Rome on Thursday, 23 December was purportedly found in possession of two knives at Fiumicino Airport.

The MIA said it is collaborating fully with the Office of the Manager Airport Security (OMAS), which is the appropriate authority for civil aviation security, and which is investigating the alleged incident.
