Marsa CC, Ampthill CC Series squared

On Saturday the Marsa C.C played against returning team Ampthill C.C who are on their third trip.

Ampthill won the toss and elected to bat first. After a poor start losing both openers to the bowling of Bikram Arora, D. Thompson (54 runs) and R.Haxell (40) guided their team to wards the 177 run total.

They put on a partnership of 71 runs. N. Lewin (11),R. Hardy (10) and N. Key (13) all had starts but were unable to go on and make big scores.

For Marsa, Ronnie Sacco was the pick of the bowlers taking four wickets. Gordon Hewitt also took two wickets.

The run chase by the Marsa team ended in misery only totalling 111 runs. Seven batsmen had starts, Nowell Khosla (14), Tim Wheeler (12), Malcolm Crabbe (18), Javed Shah (11), Tony Azzopardi (12), Ronnie Sacco (17) and Andy Lenard (10), but none were able to go on and make a big score.

One must not take away the brilliant bowling from J.Marsh who took five wickets for 11 runs from eight overs bowled - very impressive. S.Baxter and A.Passman chipped in with a couple wickets each.

Ampthill C.C won the game.

The previous Thursday the first game was played. This time Marsa C.C batted first in the 20-over contest.

The home team totalled a brilliant score of 150 runs. Malcolm Crabbe top scored with 33 runs, Mike Caruana made 32 runs not out, Javed Shah 26 and Nowell Khosla 19.

For the visitors, A.Passnan was the main wicket taker with two.

In reply R. Haxell took his team into a great position when he made 61 runs off 44 balls: this included nine fours and a six.

Once his wicket was taken, the home side were able to control the game and kept the visitors to 121 runs. For Marsa, Sarfraz Ali was the main wicket taker with three while Ronnie Sacco took two.

The series was tied.

This week sees the return of Milan C.C who will be on their fifth tour to Malta. So far eight games have been played between the two sides - the home team has only lost once. This will be as three game series starting tomorrow.
