Malta Independent Thursday, 22 March 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The 26-year-old Sudanese who was assaulted in Paceville in the early hours of Saturday, succumbed to injuries and died late on Tuesday night after the life supporting machines were switched off.

Osama Al Shzliaoy, who lived in Gżira, had been in intensive care in Mater Dei Hospital following life threatening injuries sustained to his head in a brawl with two men believed to be Romanian, who are still at large. So far all the efforts by the police to identify the aggressors have yielded no results, with grainy CCTV footage being the only source of information available at hand.

The Sudanese, who was accompanied by friends, allegedly bumped into the Romanians at around 6am and this triggered the brawl during which he ended up on the floor. Al Shzliaoy was left in a pool of blood, after the aggressors who ran away, hit him several times on the head causing severe skull fractures.

The Sudanese some time ago left employment to further his studies in order to become a doctor.

Any information related to the case may be passed confidentially to the police on 119 or on 2122-4001.
