Football – Under 17: Malta Youths Face N. Ireland in last match

Malta Independent Thursday, 12 April 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Malta Under-17 boys are well on course to register a prestigious triumph when they face their counterparts from Northern Ireland in the last match of the Malta International Under-17 tournament at the Centenary Stadium today at 12.30pm.

After defeating Liechtenstein 1-0 and Romania 2-1 on the opening days of the quadrangular event, Branco Nisevic has his team perched at the top of the table ahead of the Irish team and Romania, each with a win to their credit, and the Municipality of Liechtenstein who are at the bottom without any points.

The local lads gave a good account of themselves in the matches played so far and this could help their morale in today’s decisive match against the Irish. Vociferous backing from the Centenary Stadium stands will certainly boost the local boys in their bid to prove their worth with a positive conclusion to the tournament.

The final matches are programmes for today at the Centenary Stadium, as follows:

10am Liechtenstein-Romania; 12.30pm Malta-N. Ireland
