Creating Jobs is government’s priority

Malta Independent Wednesday, 18 April 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The main priority for the government, the Prime Minister yesterday told the Today Public Policy Institute (TPPI), is to create jobs. He was speaking when presented by TPPI director general Martin Scicluna with the institute’s document ‘A Strategy for Addressing the Nation’s Priorities’.

The government strategy is to create more employment through incentives and schemes for the private sector, Dr Lawrence Gonzi said. Employment is a priority because it offers peace of mind and independence to families. The government is aiming to improve family income while strengthening the stipends and social welfare system, without prejudicing the aim of reducing the deficit.

Mr Scicluna said the report takes the form of a manifesto for sectors which the TPPI feels should be addressed.
