Football – BoV Premier League: Tarxien And Mosta seek important win

Malta Independent Friday, 27 April 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Bank of Valletta Premier League continues today with two matches at the Hibernians Stadium.

In the first match – in connection with the Relegation Pool – Tarxien Rainbows and Mosta will be seeking to win precious points as they meet in one of the few remaining direct clashes.

At present, the two teams are enjoying a three-point lead over fifth placed Mqabba. With Qormi and Hamrun almost safe mathematically, it is one of these three teams that will accompany the already relegated Marsaxlokk to next year’s first division.

A draw will be a positive result for both sides, but with Mqabba favourites to beat Marsaxlokk on Sunday, and therefore drawing closer to the teams above them, both Mosta and Tarxien will aim for a victory this evening.

In the second match on the card, Floriana will be facing Balzan Youths in a match which is only of a certain interest to Floriana.

The Greens are engaged in a contest for third place with Birkirkara. At present they enjoy a one-point lead over the Stripes and a victory this evening will consolidate their position.

Balzan have no further interest in the proceedings, but they are still searching for a historic first win in their first ever participation in the Championship Pool.
